AlterVault Terms of Service.

By downloading or using AlterVault, you agree to these Terms. Short version: everything stays encrypted on your device, we have no copy of it and no way to unlock it — so if you forget your passcode and lose your recovery phrase, that data is gone for good.

1. What AlterVault does

AlterVault is published by Devaprime LLC ("we", "us"), the same company as AlterSend. The two are separate apps: these Terms cover AlterVault only, and the AlterSend Terms do not apply to it. AlterVault is an offline vault for photos, videos and documents. Items you import are encrypted on your device with a key derived from a passcode you choose, and they stay on that device. There is no account, no cloud storage, no sync and no server of ours involved at any point. We cannot see, decrypt, recover, moderate or delete anything you store, and we hold no copy of it.

2. Your passcode, and the risk of permanent data loss

This is the most important section of these Terms. Because the encryption key comes from your passcode and never leaves your device, the design that keeps your data private is the same design that makes it unrecoverable. By using AlterVault you accept that:

  • We cannot reset your passcode, unlock your vault, or recover anything inside it. There is no back door, no master key and no support process that can retrieve your data. This is not a limitation we can lift on request — we do not hold the information that would be required.
  • If you forget your passcode and have not saved your recovery phrase, the contents of that vault are permanently lost.
  • Your recovery phrase is shown to you once, when you create it, and is never stored in a form anyone — including us — can read back. It is your responsibility to record it and keep it somewhere safe. It answers a forgotten passcode; it does not answer a lost, stolen, broken or wiped device.
  • Deleting the app, erasing the device, or restoring it to another device deletes your vault permanently. Keys are stored on the device only and are not carried by an iCloud or iTunes backup.
  • AlterVault is not a backup service. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose, stored somewhere other than this app.
  • Failed unlock attempts are deliberately slowed down, and the delay persists across restarts and reinstalls. This is a security measure, and being locked out temporarily is expected behaviour, not a fault.

3. Lawful use and your content

You are solely responsible for the content you store in AlterVault and for having the right to store it. You must not use AlterVault to store content that is illegal in your jurisdiction, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), or content that infringes another person's rights. Because everything is encrypted on your device and nothing is transmitted to us, we have no ability to screen, moderate or review what any vault contains — that is a property of the product, not a policy choice, and it does not make unlawful content acceptable. AlterVault transmits nothing between users and has no sharing, messaging or delivery feature of any kind.

4. What the privacy features do and do not do

AlterVault includes a decoy space, a shake gesture, auto-lock and protection against screenshots and screen recording while an item is open. These are protections against casual and opportunistic access to your device. They are not a guarantee against determined forensic analysis, malware, a compromised or jailbroken device, an operating system vulnerability, or anyone who knows your passcode. We make no representation that any feature of the app will defeat a specific adversary. Nothing in the app relieves you of any legal obligation you may have — including any obligation to disclose information or provide access to a device — and using these features to obstruct a lawful order is your responsibility alone, not a use we endorse or support.

5. Exporting and sharing

When you export or share an item, the app decrypts it and hands it to the system share sheet so that another app can receive it. From that moment the copy is outside AlterVault's protection and is governed by whatever app, service or destination you sent it to. Saving an item back to your photo library puts it in the photo library, unencrypted, like any other photo.

6. AlterVault Pro

AlterVault is free to use with a limit on how many items a vault can hold; the limit is shown in the app. AlterVault Pro is an optional one-time purchase that removes it. The following terms apply if you buy it:

  • Pro is a single non-consumable purchase. It is not a subscription: there is no renewal, no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. You pay once.
  • The price for your country and currency is shown in the app before you confirm, and that is the price you pay.
  • Buying Pro does not create an account. The purchase is tied to the Apple ID you bought it with, and Restore Purchases is how you carry it to your other devices signed in to that same Apple ID.
  • Purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are governed by Apple's policies, not ours. Request a refund through Apple. Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory refund or cancellation right you have where you live.
  • The free limit applies only when items are added. Nothing already in your vault is ever hidden, locked or removed because of a purchase state, a refund, or an inability to verify the purchase — for example, when the device is offline.
  • Pro unlocks features that exist in the app on the day you buy it. We may add more later at no extra cost, but no future feature is promised as part of this purchase.

7. Licence to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use AlterVault on devices you own or control, for the lifetime of the app. You may not sell, sublicense or redistribute the app itself, and you may not remove or work around the purchase limits described above. If parts of AlterVault are published as open-source software, your use of that source code is governed by the licence published with it, not by these Terms.

8. No warranty

AlterVault is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, that it will be compatible with every device or future operating system version, or that data stored in it will remain accessible. Encryption software carries an inherent risk that data becomes unreadable through device failure, operating system changes, a forgotten passcode, or a defect — which is why Section 2 asks you to keep your own copies.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of AlterVault, including loss of data, loss of files, loss of access to a vault, or disclosure of content held on your device. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you actually paid us for the app, which is zero unless you purchased AlterVault Pro.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of AlterVault after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Devaprime LLC is established. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
